on every plan, including the trial

We watch your hostname and alert you when something is wrong.

Every other dynamic DNS service publishes your address and stops there. If your updater dies at 2am, you find out when something you rely on stops working. We already know — so you can be alerted, wherever you want to hear it.

Time to fix it before it breaks

If the client on your machine stops reporting in, we say so while everything is still working — so you can sort it out before your next address change takes the hostname down.

Alerts you can trust

Because we run the DNS, we can tell a record you deleted on purpose from a client that died — and both from a problem on our end. If the fault is ours, we fix it and stay off your phone.

You choose where alerts go

We email the address on your account by default. Add Slack, Discord, Telegram, a webhook or SMS through watch4.me if an inbox is not where you would notice.

Never for our benefit

We will not ask you to reconfirm a hostname your client is plainly still using, and we will not invent a reason to appear in your inbox. If nothing needs doing, you hear nothing.

Why this tier?

Business
in development
$120/year

For names your own customers depend on.

  • Everything in Personal
  • Business-only domain names, kept apart from the free tier — your hostnames do not share a reputation with accounts you did not choose
  • Bring your own domain — use a name you already own, on our DNS
  • We watch for signs your address or hostname is in trouble — a certificate issued on your name, your address turning up on a blocklist — and tell you
  • Priority support

The greyed items are being built and are not available yet. We would rather tell you that than let you find out after paying. Talk to us if you need them and we will say honestly when they will be ready.

Why this tier?

Annual billing only, and that is deliberate. Card processing costs a fixed fee per charge, so billing monthly would burn eleven extra fees a year — roughly a fifth of a small subscription. We would rather charge once and pass the difference to you than collect it twelve times and charge you more each month. Why? ›

every account, every domain

Your hostname's reputation is ours to protect.

Domains carry a reputation on the internet, and everyone sharing one shares that reputation. Mail filters and browser blocklists judge the domain, not the account — so if somebody misuses a name on a domain you are using, your service is what suffers for it. Guarding that is our job, not yours.

Kept clean, not just cleaned up

We check for misuse rather than waiting for someone to report it, so problems are dealt with before they reach a blocklist and affect you.

Your account is not collateral

Action is taken on the name at fault. Your hostnames, your records and your data are unaffected by someone else's behaviour, or by a mistake about your own.

You can check our work

We publish what we found and what we did about it. A safety promise you cannot verify is just a claim, and you should not have to take ours on faith.

Spotted something wrong on one of our domains? abuse@closetserver.com reaches a person.

the honest version

Why we charge when others don't.

You can get dynamic DNS free from several places, and you are right to wonder how that works.

Here is what free costs. A service handing out unlimited hostnames to anonymous accounts, with nothing verified, is functionally a registrar without a registrar's accountability. That is not a hypothetical — it is how a DDNS provider once lost control of its domains to a court order and took a very large number of innocent customers offline with it.

We charge $15 a year because it means we know who our customers are. That single fact keeps most of the abuse out of our namespace, which protects your hostname's reputation as much as it protects ours.

The things you can see: hostnames that never expire, no confirmation emails, the full API, and monitoring that tells you when your updater goes quiet. The things you cannot: we publish what we do about abuse, and we say what happened when something goes wrong.

common questions

Things people ask.

Do I have to give you a card to try it?

Only if you want the longer trial. With a card you get 30 days; without one you get 14. Either way we remind you before it ends, and neither charges you by surprise.

Why is there no monthly plan?

Because it would cost you more. Each charge carries a fixed processing fee, so twelve small charges lose far more to fees than one. Charging annually is the cheaper structure and we pass that on rather than keeping it.

Will my hostname be deleted if I stop using it?

We send no confirmation emails and run no 30-day timer, so an active hostname stays yours. We may reclaim hostnames from accounts dormant for a long stretch, and we would tell you well before that happened.

What does the bundled monitoring do?

We watch whether your updater is still checking in. If it goes quiet, we email the address on your account, and you can add other channels — Slack, Discord, Telegram, a webhook or SMS — through watch4.me, so alerts reach you where you actually look. Nothing gets deleted either way. No extra setup, no extra cost.

Does it work with my router?

If it speaks DynDNS2, then almost certainly — and many routers do, usually as a “custom” or “DynDNS-compatible” provider option. We have verified ddclient, inadyn, and plain curl in cron. If your router only offers a fixed list of providers with no custom entry, it cannot be pointed at us — that is worth checking before you pay.

What happens when the trial ends?

Your hostnames stop updating; they are not deleted. Pay whenever you like and everything resumes where it left off.

Try it for 30 days.

Or 14 without a card. Cancel whenever — we'll remind you first.
